President Obama canceled a meeting with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte after the Filipino leader called him a “son of a bitch” and warned him not to ask about extrajudicial killings in his country.
Granted: Duterte’s personal attack was uncalled for. However, that is no reason to dismiss his overall argument that America is trying to play global police officer. Obama was planning to critique their War on Drugs, and their usage of death squads as not “consistent with basic international norms.”
But America is in no moral position to lecture ANYONE about extrajudicial killings. Everything the Philippines are doing in their War on Drugs … America is doing in their War on Terrorism.
When America closes Guantanamo Bay, maybe they can ask the Philippines about extrajudicial killings.
When Obama gets rid of his “kill list,” maybe he can ask the Philippines about extrajudicial killings.
When cops stop killing black people for sport, maybe America can ask the Philippines about extrajudicial killings.
