When I wrote you a ballad
and serenaded you beneath your window,
you complained it was late
and would rather be dreaming on your pillow.
When I took you out on a date
for a stroll beneath the stars,
you complained your feet hurt
and would rather travel in a car.
When I complimented your shirt
by saying it makes you look gorgeous,
you said “all men are alike”
and it makes you quite nauseous.
When I cooked dinner one night
and prepared your favorite dish,
you claimed you lost your appetite
so the meal you’d have to miss.
But when I said our relationship wasn’t right
and we should go our separate ways,
I finally saw you smile
for the first time in all our days.
