Spare me the phony outrage over the Kathy Griffin photo. As she was posing for the image, the United States was carrying out airstrikes in Syria. Over the past month, America has killed 225 Syrian civilians, including 44 children. Instead of focusing on the way Griffin’s depiction of violence made Trump’s son feel, lets talk about the real structure of violence that kills or displaces children on a regular basis.
Trump just proposed an $800 billion spending cut to Medicaid – a move which disproportionately impacts poor children of color. But we are still being asked to prioritize the emotional needs of rich white kids.
And for the record: all violence is not created equal. There is no moral parity between the violence used by the American government to maintain oppression and the violence used by members of oppressed groups to liberate themselves.

Quote: “There is no moral parity between the violence used by the American government to maintain oppression and the violence used by members of oppressed groups to liberate themselves.” So true. Great article. I totally agree with your position re: that DT image. Trump cuts medical aid to the poor and hands over billions to the murderous Saudi regime. Shame on America.

Thank you Sha’ Tara. Yes, exactly. All Kathy did was invert America’s logic and hold a mirror up to itself. She is being burned at the stake for what normally occurs, unfortunately. Shame indeed
