Sure – the elections yesterday were a reprimand on Trump. But there is still a qualitative difference between being anti-Trump and being anti-oppression.

The Democratic Party is not, cannot, and never will be the vessel for significant social change. Instead of cheering for the “Democratic wave,” we need to wave goodbye to the Democratic Party.

And of course – we should celebrate the fact that history was made on several fronts. At the same time, we need to keep in mind that one’s membership in an oppressed group is not synonymous with having an anti-oppression agenda. Barack Obama is black, and his politics are anti-black. Hillary Clinton is a woman, and her politics are sexist.

…So lets not burden these elections with an undue amount of transformative power.
