Welcome to the Zone of Non-being!
My name is Darryl. I am a poet, bookworm, social critic, and Central Committee member of Rhode Island Socialists. This blog will feature my poetry, satire, and political commentary from the far, far Left.
This blog has been maintained for over a year now, and I am happy to state that The Zone of Non-being was nominated for the Serenity Blog Award! This Award is “awarded to the authors of blogs whose goal is to spread peace and unity through love and respect, while shining light on important topics”.
Writing about peace is important to me for at least two reasons:
- Changing our wretched material conditions requires awareness. We cannot act upon a problem if we do not know that it exists. Harriet Tubman said “I have freed thousands of slaves. I could have freed thousands more if they only knew they were slaves”. Raising consciousness is a precondition for concrete action.
- People need to know that an another world is possible. Through writing, I challenge dominant narratives and encourage people to imagine better. Believing we deserve better is the first step to demanding better.
The Zone of Non-being is a space for everyone to engage in constructive dialogue about social issues. I would love to hear your thoughts in the Comments Section!
Follow the blog to stay tuned!

Hi Dr. Garland! Thank you for checking on me. That means a lot. I’ve been feeling kinda off lately, as if my *spirit* has waned. Sigh. But I am going to try to jump back in tomorrow. ☺ Hearing from you has made my night, thanks love!

i was reading one of your post and you said that “Blacks are positioned outside of the State, so they are theorized not as people to be protected, but people to be protected from.” i was writing a a report and i wanted to know where you got that information from so i could cite it. i would also like to cite you but i couldn’t find your credentials on your website, if you could please help me that would be great.

Hi Kevin. That idea can be attributed, more or less, to Judith Butler in her 2004 book “Undoing Gender”.
My information is:
Darryl Walker, Jr.
Master of Arts degree from Northeastern University,
and you can cite the name of my wordpress blog as well

Good Morning my friend – thank you for your kind words! Nice to hear this, I almost gave up on this blog entirely. I am getting back into the swing of it. Demands on my time now with a full-time job; and I would rather not write at all than post sub-par material. I am going to post a short piece I have written recently on here in a couple of hours, so stay tuned!

I understand. I too will only post what I’m proud to have written, so I’m glad you’ll continue to post even it’s sporadically.

Darryl, life is hard. People have full time jobs, kids, wives, school, books to write, meetings to attend, showers to take. Then we have to eat. We are busy. So we let go of this and that. Don’t let go of your blog. We need people like you to snap us out of our “depressions” and get us to using our noggins. We need a place to go to see a cute face and to get some much needed knowledge to help each other stay “up” and positive. So far I have never seen any sub-par posts written by you. It’s not gonna happen because you are a good writer and you have the knowledge. Don’t leave us!! Did you get married yet? You are way too young to have run out of steam!! Trust me.

Hello Ms. Elva,
Thank you for your kind words. I am trying hard. You are right: life is hard. I am getting married in Sept 2018, and we are currently on the market for a home. Between working extra hours and being stressed, I often feel I don’t have that spark.
I am uploading a piece I just wrote today, though, in a few. Sorry for being AWOL. I love this blog – you and a few others bloggers have kept me sane in the past.

hi, was reading alot of your anti-black arguments and i wanted to know what your opinion was on the current state of governments and cyber security. ive feel that the govement has been using these “cyber attacks” as a way to justify adding more surveillance on the African body.

Hello Kevin,
Yes – I agree with you. This is how the West operates: there is always an alibi, there is always an excuse which aims to justify their control. They point to the fear of some boogeyman, and the end result is the stripping of civil/human rights for black folks
