President Trump authorized an airstrike against Syria in response to “an affront to humanity” that killed 100+ “innocent children and babies” in a chemical attack. But America is in no moral position to wag its finger at Syria. Anyone who barely skims the news is aware that the United States routinely violates both human and civil rights. At this moment, America is waging chemical attacks against its own people.
For instance, the Trump administration green-lighted the Dakota Access Pipeline which will poison water supplies and land for generations to come. This is a chemical attack on the American people. The government is run by a bunch of conservatives who think climate change is a hoax – an idea which justifies a 30% cut to the Environmental Protections Agency. This is a chemical attack on the American people. The government sits idly by and allows the residents of Flint, Michigan to have their water supply contaminated with lead; causing damage to “innocent children and babies.” This is a chemical attack on the American people.
The fact that the U.S. allows chemical attacks locally but condemns them globally proves that the airstrikes on Syria have absolutely nothing to do with defending “humanity.” If America were truly humanitarian, it would’ve welcomed Syrian refugees with open arms. We need to dismantle the idea that the United States is the global police officer who intervenes for the greater good. The only objective here is to dominate the Middle East.

What humanitarianism looks like when “humanity” = For Whites Only.
Is there a good word for the feeling of constantly teetering between “my heart is breaking” and “I am filled with unspeakable rage”? Cuz there really ought to be a word for that, if there isn’t one already…

Exactly, good point about what humanity really means. And I am unfamiliar with a word that captures both feelings. We would have to make one up! ☺

What Trump’s administration has done by stripping away environmental protections is just going to kill Americans SLOWER, but the end result will be the same, chronically ill and dead Americans. Odd…he was completely against Obama taking action against Assad for doing the exact thing that HE just took action against Assad for doing. Hmmm.. I wonder what caused his change of heart. 😑

I dont think it was a change of heart at all. I think it is typical hypocrisy and opportunism. He needed to distance himself from Obama by critiquing him so he could establish a legible platform and voter-base. Once he got into office, he did what the ruling class expected of him: continue the ruthless imperialism and bloodshed in the Middle East. Democrats and Republicans are part of the same war machine. Clinton was on board with these airstrikes. Trump never had a heart.

Yeah, I know he didn’t have a change of heart, but I was pointing out his and the GOP’s hypocrisy in that they were against anything Obama wanted to do just for the sake of being against him. I figured Trump would do this, but I thought it’d at least be 7-8 months, but this didn’t take long at all.

Ah, gotcha! It will only get worse, especially now that they got their Court pick 😕

Yes, it will. I’m not getting my hopes up about an impeachment. Liberals think it’s a done deal, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

Me either! The Democrats are incredibly facile. If they really wanted to impeach him, it would’ve happened already. He still has businesses in 20 countries … that is an impeachable offense right there! Goes to show what the Dems really think and want!

My opinion is that Mr. Trump has no concern about “humanity”. His concern is for himself, period. And right now he is the government.
In January Fox news reported: “”as the man so long dismissed by the media and political establishment talked about giving the government back to the people – fox news 1/20”. Mr. Trump said that he was going to give the government back to us, THEN in February Mr. Trump said “When you hear about the tough phone calls I’m having, don’t worry about it. Just don’t worry about it” – LA Times.
Giving the government back to the people is his way of mollifying the people while he pursues his personal agenda; he has proven that by telling us “not to worry about what is going on in the White House”. It’s personal. It’s not about poison in “the people’s” water supply, or “saving innocent children and babies”, it is about furthering his own agenda. He is running his Presidency the way he has run his business life. The idea that the United States is the global police officer who intervenes for the global good will certainly fade away as we become aware that while we were rejoicing about being given the government back and “not worrying about it”, Mr. Trump is busy doing exactly what he wants to do, when he wants to do it, because he is the President not because he is interested in the global good, in my opinion.

Hello Ms. Elva. I agree. Trump is running the country the way he runs his business, which sounds like a contradiction, but that it is a historical and present fact. The government exists to enrich the wealthy at the expense of the poor. That much is nothing new. Trump just makes that fact more obvious.
I agree that Trump is using the presidency for personal gain. But most politicians do. There are more lobbyists in Washington than leaders; and they are more persuasive than all of us (regular people) combined. Trump is America in its rawest, most naked form.
I also think America has been the global police officer since 1947 with the Truman Doctrine that vowed to contain communism wherever it popped up in the world. This is what fueled the Cold War: America supplying military, nutritional, and monetary aid to right-wing radicals to save the face of capitalism/imperialism. The War on Terror is an expansion of Cold War tensions … hence the fixation with Russia. Both the US and Russia have imperialistic intentions, and Assad is awful as well.

Reblogged this on The Black Freq Sheets and commented:
The last sentence is super definitive and really could have stood alone if not for all the inconsistent rhetoric and news fodder bogging everyone down. We have been crying about ‘peace in the middleeast’ for decades and the only thing that’s left the middleeast is ‘in pieces.’

It’s not just Flint. Smell your tap water. Add to it that the majority of Americans are on pharmaceuticals. That is chemical warfare as well.

Good point. The addition of flouride to our water is an assault, absolutely!
